Use of cheaper brand brake pads.
| STEP 1 | With brake pads, cheaper is not always best and should not be the main deciding factor. Your safety and the safety of others is at stake if your brakes fail or under perform. We sell factory Volvo pads and we also sell the best aftermarket brands on the market which will perform great as well. |
The brake pad shims are missing or need to be replaced.
| STEP 2 | Many Volvos require the use of brake pad shims behind the Rear brake pads. Some models also require them to be used with the Front brake pads. They insure that the pads fit snugly and make proper contact with the brake rotors. If these shims are left off the pads can make a loud squealing noise

The brake pads have been improperly installed
| STEP 3 | Make sure that the pads have the correct orientation. There may be an inner and an outer pad in some applications. If so, the inner and outer pad will be different. You should observe how the old pads are installed before you remove them. |
Brake pad hardware rattles
| STEP 4 | Brake hardware is designed to prevent brake pad rattle. If the hardware is excessively worn they noise can occur. |
